Week Four: A Farmer

Session 4 Outline - Seven Portraits of a Disciple

Portrait #4: A Farmer

Scripture Passages: Galatians 6:7,8, 2 Corinthians 9:6,

Discussion Questions:

1.       Galatians 6:7,8 can be labeled the Law of Labor.  Paul uses the language of agriculture but how does it apply to a Christian.  How does 2 Corinthians 9:6 support it?

2.       The law of likeness is also found in Galatians 6:7-8.  Genesis 1:11-12 and Matthew 7:16-18 also support it.  How does this apply to the life of a disciple/believer?

“Not only does a farmer reap after he has sown and because he has sown; he also reaps exactly what he has sown”

3.       Matthew 13:8 speaks to the law of largeness.  “You reap more than you sow.”  Almost always, the size of the crop is disproportionate to the size of the seed sown.   This also speaks to the idea of multiplication.  How can this apply to the life of an individual?

4.       Galatians 6:7,8 states that he shall reap whatever he has sown.  This speaks to the law of lateness.  In other words, the farmer will reap the harvest after he has sown.

How does this apply to the life of a disciple?  How does this apply to your players?

5.       The last law is the law of love.  Dietrich Bonhoeffer said: “the truly righteous man is a man who lives for the next generation.”

How can this law and quote impact your life as a disciple of Christ?  As a coach?
